Brief facts about gigahertz:

The hertz is the unit of frequency in the International System of Units, equivalent to one event per second. The hertz is an SI derived unit whose expression in terms of SI base units is s⁻¹, meaning that one hertz is the reciprocal of one second. It is named after Heinrich Rudolf Hertz, the first person to provide conclusive proof of the existence of electromagnetic waves. Hertz are commonly expressed in multiples: kilohertz, megahertz, gigahertz, terahertz. Some of the unit's most common uses are in the description of periodic waveforms and musical tones, particularly those used in radio- and audio-related applications. It is also used to describe the clock speeds at which computers and other electronics are driven. The units are sometimes also used as a representation of the energy of a photon, via the Planck relation E = hν, where E is the photon's energy, ν is its frequency, and h is the Planck constant.

Alternating current - Alternating current is an electric current that periodically reverses direction and changes its magnitude continuously with time, in contrast to direct current, which flows only in one direction.

Bandwidth (signal processing) - Bandwidth is the difference between the upper and lower frequencies in a continuous band of frequencies. It is typically measured in unit of hertz.

Electronic tuner - In music, an electronic tuner is a device that detects and displays the pitch of musical notes played on a musical instrument. "Pitch" is the perceived fundamental frequency of a musical note, which is typically measured in Hertz.

FLOPS - Floating point operations per second is a measure of computer performance in computing, useful in fields of scientific computations that require floating-point calculations. For such cases, it is a more accurate measure than measuring instructions per second.

Frequency changer - A frequency changer or frequency converter is an electronic or electromechanical device that converts alternating current of one frequency to alternating current of another frequency.

Normalized frequency (signal processing) - In digital signal processing, a normalized frequency is a ratio of a variable frequency and a constant frequency associated with a system. Some software applications require normalized inputs and produce normalized outputs, which can be re-scaled to physical units when necessary.
