Brief facts about leases:

A lease is a contractual arrangement calling for the user to pay the owner for the use of an asset. Property, buildings and vehicles are common assets that are leased. Industrial or business equipment are also leased. Basically a lease agreement is a contract between two parties: the lessor and the lessee. The lessor is the legal owner of the asset, while the lessee obtains the right to use the asset in return for regular rental payments. For example, a person leasing a car may agree to the condition that the car will only be used for personal use. The term rental agreement can refer to two kinds of leases: • A lease in which the asset is tangible property. Here, the user rents the asset let out or rented out by the owner. Examples of a lease for intangible property include use of a computer program, or use of a radio frequency. • A periodic lease agreement internationally and in some regions of the United States.

Finance lease - A finance lease is a type of lease in which a finance company is typically the legal owner of the asset for the duration of the lease, while the lessee not only has operating control over the asset but also some share of the economic risks and returns from the change in the valuation of the...

Leasehold estate - A leasehold estate is an ownership of a temporary right to hold land or property in which a lessee or a tenant has rights of real property by some form of title from a lessor or landlord.

Leasehold valuation tribunal - A leasehold valuation tribunal was a statutory tribunal in England which determined various types of landlord and tenant dispute involving residential property in the private sector.

Leveraged lease - A leveraged lease or leased lender is a lease in which the lessor puts up some of the money required to purchase the asset and borrows the rest from a lender. The lender is given a senior secured interest on the asset and an assignment of the lease and lease payments.

Operating lease - The expression "operating lease" is somewhat confusing as it has a different meaning based on the context that is under consideration.
